Can you tell us more about your upcoming exhibition "Parallax"? What inspired this collection and how does it differ from your previous works?

"Parallax," (2024), my latest collection, draws inspiration from my daily commutes across Los Angeles. I am fascinated by the dynamic interplay of growth and decay, where natural and man-made elements intertwine. While still life remains a central theme in my works, "Parallax" introduces urban cityscapes to immerse the viewer in the urban setting. Unlike my previous works, which often explored the ordinary and desires of everyday life, this new series shifts its focus to evoke feelings of melancholy, struggle, and the pressure to keep pace.

In "Parallax," you introduce urban cityscapes alongside your traditional still life themes. What motivated you to incorporate urban elements into your artwork, and how does this change the viewer's experience?

"Parallax" typically refers to the shift in an object's position when viewed from different perspectives. Metaphorically, it extends to symbolize diverse viewpoints or interpretations of a situation or concept. Drawing inspiration from this notion, my goal was to compose contrasting elements within my work, aiming to juxtapose themes such as stillness versus movement, sharpness against blurriness, and the placement of discarded objects with signs of life.

Could you discuss the significance of uncertainty, survival, renewal, and hope in your ongoing series? How do these themes reflect the contemporary world we live in, and how have they resonated with your artistic journey and life experiences

Each day as I traverse through Los Angeles, I navigate areas marked by both growth and decay. Amidst the remnants of everyday life, I encounter a bittersweet mix of emotions—a sense of melancholy interwoven with a playfulness emanating from the diverse shapes, colors, and arrangements of forsaken objects. These scenes prompt introspection, leading me to appreciate the simplicity of my own life and fostering empathy for those facing adversity.

How do you approach the process of capturing images for research and inspiration? Can you describe how these photographs influence the narratives and compositions in your artwork?

I frequently use my phone to capture photos, using it as a way to sketch, document and take notes. While these photos offer a wealth of complex information, my artistic process involves simplifying this complexity visually through careful consideration of design, staging, lighting, and composition. This process often feels meditative, allowing me in digest, process, and present my works with clarity.

Can you share with us how you first discovered your passion for art and what led you to pursue it as a career? What artistic influences or experiences have shaped your creative journey and contributed to your development as an artist?

Since childhood, my family has often relocated, leaving me feeling like I didn't quite belong anywhere. During these times, I found solace in drawing, discovering a sense of fulfillment in creating images. Manga and anime served as my primary inspirations when I was young, but upon moving to the United States, I began to draw influence from Western art as well. As a result, my artwork has evolved into a stylistic blend of both influences.

What challenges have you faced as an artist, and how have you overcome them to continue growing and innovating in your work? How have these challenges impacted your artistic resilience and determination throughout your career?

Navigating social media and self-promotion has definitely been a challenge, especially as an introvert. However, gaining insights from fellow artists and observing their online practices has been incredibly enlightening. Not only has it helped boost my confidence and improve my ability to express my work, but it has also encouraged personal growth. As a result, I've noticed myself becoming more open, which has paved the way for deeper connections with other creators and collectors in the community.

Looking ahead, what are your aspirations or goals for the future of your artistic career? Are there any upcoming projects or ventures that you're excited about? How do you envision your artistic journey evolving in the coming years?

Exploring web3 has been incredibly inspiring, especially seeing the variety of art breaking away from traditional norms. The abundance of digital tools and unconventional creation methods is also something I want to experiment with. Ultimately my main focus remains creating art that I'm proud of and that resonates with people from all backgrounds.
