A meditation on death turned into art, "Craniopolis" (lit. "a city of skulls") is the result of the crashing together in my subconscious of two radically different influences: medieval Japanese narrative art (incredibly lively everyday scenes painted on Byōbu folding screen panels, like those created by the Kanō school) and José Guadalupe Posada's celebrated calavera engravings. These come layered on top of my love and obsession for XXth century art, from comic books to Giger and Escher's seminal work.
"Death is a friend of ours; and he that is not ready to entertain him is not at home." - Francis Bacon
