DISTANTIA is a multimedia audiovisual project about the mediated nature of observation. Through the integration of satellite imagery, virtual spaces and machie learning, is allegorically depicted the distance that separates us from the objects of our perception. The satellite, functioning as a detached and impartial observer, provides us with a glimpse of the intricate and fascinating forms of our planet. However, its perspective is always selective and partial, with the shadows of reality lurking in the periphery. The sound, generated by AI algorithms trained on personal datasets, emerges as a choir that urgently conveys information beyond the satellite’s selective gaze. In doing so, DISTANTIA invites us to consider the role of technology in shaping our perceptions of the world and our place within it.
