I've created this painting in 2019 as a part of the "Hedonism Now" series which illustrates the seven deadly sins and their contemporary manifestations.

The inspiration behind this image came from the movie "Django Unchained". I loved the scene when Django arrives at Mr Candy's estate and Stephen witnesses another formerly enslaved person being a free man. This engulfs him in (what I interpreted as) envy and suspicion. This scene struck a chord with me so I really wanted to immortalize it.

In Romanian, there is a proverb: "Să moară capra vecinului" which literally translates to "may the goat of the neighbour die" which means, I'd rather see my neighbour's goat die than wish one for myself and be happy. Misfortune in others makes one happier than a fortune for himself.

This NFT of 3839x5789 pixels is based on the original painting "Envy 2019", painted with oil colours on a 33x50 cm aluminium panel. After taking the high res picture of the painting I added much more detail and modified many aspects of the painting so that it is unique in its own right. The final image for this NFT was edited and enhanced with Procreate in 2022.
