NOBÏlÏS (‘Known’)

In ancient times women were regarded as inferior beings and had to live under a patriarchal system that prohibited them from being independent. They had to be obedient to their husbands, who were entitled to have absolute control over their wives' actions. Any attempt of disobedience or escape was severely punished by the imprecations of the law. The male gods, on whom the social order depended, punished disobedience and liberated women from the chains of marriage. This allowed them to become acquainted with their innate vocation of total devotion to honourable crafting in maternal life.
