Maitreyee Varun Nimbolkar, a self-taught artist from Pune, India, uses various painting techniques. Her art, inspired by her own childhood, literature and environmental respect, features abstract-realistic landscapes resembling rock paintings, conveying a sense of essentiality and purity. She takes part at ’23 residency at Kalanirvana International and the ’22-’23 Konark International Exhibition. Her work is designed to provoke meditation.The concept of inevitability has always fascinated her. She finds herself contemplating about effects of actions or inactions, death, existential meaning, role of a being in his/her path of life and so on and so forth.

This work explores the story of a portrait of a time, taking elephants as a subject. In a cave painting alike sombre visual, Maitreyee explores the story of this magnificent species, a story of how the habitats are endangered, elephants are poached for ivory, how cullings happen and how this species walks towards an inevitable fate.
